Dr. Long B. Nguyen is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. His title, D.O. means he is a doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) who is a fully trained and licensed doctor who has attended and graduated from a U.S. osteopathic medical school. A doctor of medicine (M.D.) has attended and graduated from a conventional (allopathic) medical school. He completed undergraduate studies at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York and a Master’s degree at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the Graduate School of the University at Buffalo – State University of New York. After he had graduated with honors from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 2004, Dr. Nguyen completed his post-doctoral training in Internal Medicine residency, and subsequently, in Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship at the University of Connecticut Health Center School of Medicine in Farmington, Connecticut. He has served as co-chief fellow during his last year of training, coordinating academic training activities for junior fellows. Dr. Nguyen had extensive training and experience in taking care of patients with various gastrointestinal and liver diseases, including intestinal bleeding, hepatitis B and C, liver cancer, cirrhosis and associated complications. He also had extensive training in advanced endoscopic techniques for early detection of esophageal, gastric, colon and rectal cancers, and treatment of Barrett’s esophagus – a condition that could lead to cancer of the esophagus. Dr. Nguyen also had completed training in ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) procedures for management of benign and malignant conditions of the bile ducts and pancreas, and in endoscopic placement of stents for the esophagus, duodenum and colon for patients with benign or malignant conditions. He also performs balloon small bowel enteroscopy for the diagnosis and treatment of conditions in the small intestine.
Dr. Nguyen and his wife, Hang, along with their three children, Nathan, Natalie and Ashley relocated to Atlanta, GA, to be close to their family. Dr. Nguyen has been providing care to patients in Forsyth, Fulton and Gwinnett counties since 2010. He has served as the Southeast US Regional Director for the National Task Force for Hepatitis B: Focus on Asian and Pacific Islander Americans from 2014-2016. He is also the president of the Vietnamese American Healthcare Professionals Association of Georgia.
Dr. Nguyen is on the medical staff with Emory Johns Creek Hospital, Gwinnett Medical Center and Northside Forsyth Hospital. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology the American Gastroenterological Association, and the Vietnamese American Medical Association.
